Millennium Falcon & SOLIDWORKS Visualize
Solo: A Star Wars Story has premiered! It explores the adventures of a younger Han Solo and Chewbacca, who also meet a young Lando Calrissian in the new adventure. The film is directed by Ron Howard and produced by Lucasfilm.
Kate Hedberg, Application Engineer at GoEngineer, recently created a model of the Star Wars ship Millennium Falcon and, using SOLIDWORKS® Visualize, “traveled” the known universe—in pictures!
SOLIDWORKS Visualize allows you to use 3D CAD data to create photo-quality content–from images to animations, interactive web content, and more.
“I learned a lot about Star Wars in the process of making the model,” says Hedberg. She is now in the process of 3D printing the model. The final print will be about 4 inches long.
The Figure 1 image started from actual pictures taken by the Curiosity Rover on Mars (thanks to Google Mars). Hedberg used SOLIDWORKS Visualize to place her model of the Millennium Falcon within the image.
Figure 3 uses an image from the International Space Station. “I had also had to bring in another image to make it look like a glass window,” said Hedberg. Wouldn’t the astronauts be surprised to see this!
The 3D printed model is about 4 inches long printed on the Stratasys J750. “I’d like to print a bigger model next time,” said Hedberg. “It would be fun to hang it from the ceiling at the office.”
