What happens when your product (or parts within it) collide with each other, with the ground, with a flying object? It’s a huge deal for quality and safety alike, so virtual testing (i.e., impact finite element analysis (FEA)) is an extremely important step of the engineering process. To do this kind of sophisticated analysis, you need an FEA software tool that matches both your product complexity and your budget. This article will review the spectrum of FEA tools in the SOLIDWORKS ecosystem with a focus on the impact simulation use case, so that you can better understand your options and make the right choice.
Material data sheets for elastomers provide a shore value as a metric to describe a material’s hardness. This value is an important tool for starting the discussion on selecting an appropriate elastomer for your application. However, having access to actual stress-strain data will provide a much higher level of accuracy. Some material suppliers are starting to conduct and supply extensive testing data with their products, which is an excellent trend in the industry.
The latest enhancements to Routing for SOLIDWORKS 2026 are here! See what's new, including improved coverings for pipes and tubes, sketch-guided auto route, and the flexibility to automatically rescale drawing views for electrical routes.
Centerlines are dashed lines that can be inserted into a drawing by holding CTRL and clicking the edges/sides of the cylinder. You will see a dashed line has been inserted into the view. Similarly, you can insert a center mark by selecting the edge of a hole and then selecting the Center Mark command. These lines are quite useful for dimensioning and annotating drawings, and, as a result, they have become standardized as a fundamental part of GD&T. But if you have SOLIDWORKS 2025 SP3 installed, you may have noticed some changes in the behavior of centerlines and have asked yourself, "Why are centerlines coming in as a solid line? What has changed, and how can I stop this?"
GoEngineer invites U.S. and Canada military service veterans to enroll in our supported, self-paced SOLIDWORKS Essentials Training course - at no cost. The SOLIDWORKS Essentials class provides the foundation for building SOLIDWORKS skills and prepares students for the SOLIDWORKS Certified Associate exam. Our supported, self-paced training platform makes it easy for veterans to gain the skills they need to transition back into the civilian workforce.
Ohio’s TechCred Program provides businesses the chance to increase their current and future employees’ SOLIDWORKS skills with available funding. Businesses who submit successful applications will be reimbursed, up to $2000 per credential, when current or prospective employees complete technology-focused credentials, such as GoEngineer’s SOLIDWORKS Training offerings.
Cutting chamfers, where the size of the chamfer is much larger than the tool used, presents a unique set of problems. Once the hole becomes larger than the tool, the automatic chamfer abilities of the CAMWorks ContourMill operation cannot be used.
SOLIDWORKS Simulation 2026 delivers some exciting new features and enhancements for shell definition and edge selection, better setup feedback information, performance improvements for connectors, and more.
