The add-in version of SolidWorks Inspection runs inside of the SOLIDWORKS CAD interface and allows you to automatically place balloons on SolidWorks drawings. Since it reads the embedded metadata there is zero risk of misinterpreting the drawing characteristics. You can even balloon SOLIDWORKS 3D part files that contain PMI (product manufacturing information). No experience with 3D CAD is required. The add-in version of SolidWorks Inspection is ideal for companies that have access to native SolidWorks files.

The standalone version of SolidWorks Inspection DOES NOT require SolidWorks CAD to use. Using OCR technology, this version allows you to extract the characteristics from many commonly used drawing formats - PDFs, DWGs, DXFs, even scanned image files such as JPGs & TIFFs. No experience with 3D CAD is required. The standalone version of Inspection is ideal for contract manufacturers and companies receiving drawings from outside vendors. It's also a good fit if the QC team does not have access to SolidWorks CAD licenses.
