In the SOLIDWORKS PDM Administration tool is a category called “File Types”. This category is used to determine whether duplicate filenames are allowed in the PDM vault. But it can also be used to determine when referenced files are downloaded from the archive to the local computer, whether this file type can generate an “Item” and what file extensions are used for drawings. Specifying drawing extensions – along with setting the box under “Settings: Referenced Dialog: Select references that are defined as drawing nodes during state change” will determine whether drawings are automatically selected when the model is put through a state change.
