In this tutorial, you'll learn how to create and use a Split Line to quickly constrain a CAMWorks toolpath. First, decide what the largest size ball end mill can be used without being too large of a diameter that it gouges the part. You may want to hog out the extra material with a larger diameter and then change to a finish diameter, which you can do by simply creating a Split Line to stop the larger diameter end mill from gouging the part.

In CAMWorks, there are several ways to add allowances between the tool and the material. You can use it to your advantage to give the part a much tighter tolerance and better look by not seeing as many tool marks. There are many customizable options when it comes to allowances which we will go over.

CAMWorks can automatically detect edges of features where the tool needs to extend beyond to clear remaining material. The information is obtained from the solid body being machined. The feature that does this is called a Slot or Corner Slot and the edges that allow the tool to go past is called an Open Air Segment.

In some cases, suppressing features will give us a much better tool path in CAMWorks. This will be one example of when suppressing features is really useful. Usually, multi-axis tool paths will benefit most from suppressing features since they can be more difficult to get the tool path you desire.
