Nearly a decade ago, Stratasys introduced the world to multi-material 3D printing with the introduction of the original Objet Connex system. Today, this PolyJet technology is flourishing and allowing companies to achieve unprecedented efficiency in their 3D printing initiatives.
Stratasys’ triple-jetting technology allows Objet Connex users to print in multiple materials simultaneously. A single print job can contain up to three separate materials – either in the form of a mixed tray, a mixed-material part, or even mixing of the materials themselves to form new, digital materials.
Multi-material printing simplifies scheduling and minimizes material changeovers. This allows a single printer to support a diverse team as well, or even better than multiple conventional 3D printers can. With up to three materials available to be printed at any time, print jobs that would normally need to be done sequentially can be completed in parallel instead.
Quit making concessions in your designs and prototypes – print in the exact material you want, with the properties you need. With almost two dozen base materials available, users have a wide selection of options to fit their requirements. With the Connex2 and Connex3 systems, digital materials expand the number of available options into the thousands.
The Objet Connex series includes a variety of printers to choose from because every user needs something a little different. The Connex1, Connex2, and Connex3 each have slightly different printing abilities, and each comes in a size fit for you.

Stratasys Connex systems print in very fine layers (as little as 16 microns or 0.006”) and boast an accuracy of about +/- 0.06%. PolyJet technology, which these systems use, is known to create parts with excellent surface finish with minimal defects. The printheads deliver resin at 1600 DPI.
It can’t be stressed enough – the ability to print in multiple materials at the same time has far-reaching implications. Create more functional parts by adding soft, non-marring coatings to rigid parts, or add translucent/clear sections to opaque parts. Combine materials to achieve desired properties, or just print in the base resins and build completely different types of parts on the same tray.
Because Connex machines use a wide print head, printing is generally faster than other technologies and scales very well. PolyJet machines do not trace or outline parts, they sweep across the build tray while depositing resin droplets several inches wide. Adding additional parts to the job may add just a small percentage to the overall build time, making this series an excellent choice for high throughput environments.
Stratasys has empowered the Connex series with their GrabCAD Print software. Open native CAD files, manipulate colors, create digital materials, and quickly process print jobs with minimal training required. There isn’t an easier pathway to professional quality, multi-material prints than GrabCAD Print. Read More.
“She took her time explaining and answering all my staff questions and went above and beyond teaching us the best way to keep up with our 3D printer maintenance. She does not only care about the product but also she makes sure the customer feels confident operating the printer the correct way. Thank you for sending her to our site!”
