How to Backup SOLIDWORKS PDM Archive Server Settings

The SOLIDWORKS PDM Archive Server Settings backup is the least critical part of the PDM backup plan. The Archive Server settings should be backed up before any major procedures such as an upgrade. It’s easy to set up and can be scheduled to run automatically.

Archive server settings include all the settings that are entered at the Archive Server Configuration Tool, like defined login types and passwords.

This DOES NOT backup the archives.

On the Archive Server, start the Archive Server Configuration Tool from Start > Programs > SOLIDWORKS PDM > Archive Server Configuration.

Once in the Archive Server Configuration Tool, select Tools > Backup Settings...

A window will open up and you can select which vaults to include, Backup Location, set a schedule, assign a password for the file, and run the backup.

Once your settings are done to run the backup instantly, select Launch Backup, a backup.dat file will be created in the windows folder you specified in Backup Location.

To restore, just select the Load backup button… and navigate to the location of the Backup.dat file and select open.

You will be prompted for a password. If you used one when you created the backup enter it here, if you left it blank when the backup was created, leave it blank here.

After the backup is restored, you will get a notification like this one.
