5 Ways to Solve SOLIDWORKS PDM Vault Login Problems

Article by GoEngineer on Jul 27, 2016

There are five main reasons for login problems with your SOLIDWORKS PDM vault. While there could be other reasons, most other login problems may lead to one of these root causes.

#1. Wrong Username and\or Password

Not much you can do about this but ask for a username reminder or have your password reset.

#2. Refuse Login Permission

In the SOLIDWORKS PDM Administration tool under the Group or Users permission set, there is a check box that says Refuse Login. If this is checked for either your user or group ID, you will not be able to log into the Vault. This setting is generally used for employees who have quit, been let go, or are on a leave of absence. Users should not be deleted from PDM because their specific user ID is tied to events and documents in the system.

#3. File Vault Bock Log-ins or Permit Log-ins Property

By right-clicking a vault name from the PDM Administrative Tool and select properties there is a button ‘Block Log-ins. This is inclusive of the entire vault. This setting is used when the system administrator wishes to lock everyone out of the vault for backups, restores, or other system maintenance.

When maintenance is complete follow the same steps, but choose Permit Log-ins.

#4. Exceeded Available License Limit

If there are no more licenses available, you will not be able to log in. A license is taken when someone logs in. The license is returned upon logout (exit), or after inactivity for a specific amount of time.

#5. Loss of Server or Network Connection

SOLIDWORKS PDM Login IDs are stored locally on the Archive server while all other information is stored on the LDAP or AD servers. If the Archive Server becomes disconnected from the LDAP (Lightweight Directory Access Protocol) or AD (Activity Directory) server users will be prohibited from logging into the vault. A disconnect may consist of an LDAP server, AD server, or IT system crash. You can determine if this is your problem by asking the PDM Admin to log in to the PDM Administration tool (using the built-in Admin Login). Right-click the user's node and select Validate Logins.

Expand the user list and if a red “+” is seen next to the users, then the Archive server has lost its login information.
