This article is a companion to this SOLIDWORKS Flow Simulation Tutorial. In it, Free Surfaces are used in combination with time-dependent gravity to simulate water flowing out of a pitcher when rotated 90 degrees. The Transient Explorer is employed in order to view the results of this study, specifically the motion of the water over time.

In this tutorial, we perform a SOLIDWORKS Flow Simulation Tracer Study to find the carbon monoxide concentration within the air as it travels across a room. The design will consist of an internal study using the top of a stove surface as a heat source. As the surrounding air heats up, it causes it to spread out, which then exits through a ceiling fan at the top. A cut plot along with a flow trajectory can confirm the movement of air in the room.

SOLIDWORKS Simulation users often want to know how they can make their simulations run smoother and quicker. When it comes to meshing bodies in Simulation, it is often a goal to simplify the geometry to make the meshing process smoother. Unfortunately, the difficulty increases with thin components as it requires an increase in mesh size, which increases the number of elements. This often leads to larger solve times and wasted productivity.

SOLIDWORKS Plastics Feb 01, 2024

SOLIDWORKS Plastics comes pre-loaded with a wide variety of materials used for injection molding. The built-in database includes common polymers, metals, and coolants derived from data provided by different manufacturers. But what if a project in development uses a material that isn’t found in this list?

Design Studies are a tool in SOLIDWORKS Simulation that allows us to evaluate or optimize designs by seeing how they perform when selected parameters are changed. These parameters can be model dimensions, global variables, Simulation or Motion study properties, or materials applied to bodies.

Since I started beekeeping, I've always wondered what happens during the winter. How do the bees stay warm? In this article, we use SOLIDWORKS to perform a thermal and flow simulation to analyze how much energy bees use to maintain the temperature they need to survive.

SOLIDWORKS Plastics Nov 15, 2023

In the ever-evolving world of engineering and design, staying at the cutting edge of technology is crucial. SOLIDWORKS Plastics, a powerful tool for simulating plastic injection processes, has once again added innovative features and enhancements. SOLIDWORKS Plastics 2024 takes plastic part design and injection molding simulations to new heights.

SOLIDWORKS Flow Simulation 2024 has some new capabilities that really boost productivity. This article offers a sneak peek at some of our favorite new features. Flow Simulation users can now import and export component lists from Excel.

SIMULATION Oct 25, 2023

This article is part four of a five-part blog series that provides guidance on how to optimize your workstation purchase for different CAD workflows. This blog covers flow simulation—often referred to as CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics).
