SOLIDWORKS - The Sheet Format Could Not Be Located

When creating a 2-D drawing, it’s common practice to have multiple sheets to clearly define the information needed to manufacture parts and assemblies. As you’re adding additional sheets, you may be prompted with an error message that says, “The sheet format could not be located.” If you’ve ever come across this, you know all you have to do is find the sheet format and then you’re good to go. But have you ever wondered why you’re getting this message?
The reason why you see this message is because there is a broken link between your drawing template and the location of the sheet format. This usually happens if you save everything to the default locations provided by SOLIDWORKS. During the upgrade process, some file locations are deleted and re-written to the newer version installation files.
Here, I’ll show you how to browse for the desired sheet format and give you some tips on what you want to consider when you create your own custom sheet format. I’ll also show you how to create a new template so you don’t get the error message with creating more drawings.
