SOLIDWORKS PDM is a client/server program. The archive server and database are installed on a server. The PDM Client software is installed on a separate computer. A local vault view is needed for the user to add files to the vault, and to check files in and out of the vault. The local vault view is how users actually use PDM.
This video demonstrates how to get a SOLIDWORKS PDM client up and running so it is ready to be used. This includes installing the SOLIDWORKS PDM Client software using SOLIDWORKS Installation Manager (SLDIM) and then installing a local vault view. We also cover how to set viewing of the PDM to “Details” and making this the default viewing mode for PDM.
In the video, we mention selecting the install type of “Editor”, “Contributor” or “Viewer”. Note that you must have a license for whichever install type you select.
