The Canadian defence manufacturing landscape reached a pivotal turning point with the announcement of a $2 billion contract awarded to General Dynamics Land Systems-Canada (GDLS-Canada). This award expands the Armoured Combat Support Vehicle (ACSV) platform by 190 units, along with an additional 35 units designated for international assistance, bringing the total production run to 550 vehicles built on the LAV 6.0 chassis.
In DriveWorks, Groups are created as collections of projects. Projects are used to create specifications, and that is where the rules are created that alter the geometry of your generated CAD files, create your quote documents, etc. Some of the information that projects utilize is handled directly by the Group. The Group contains information such as which components have been captured for use in the projects, specifications created by the projects, etc. This article explains how to rename groups in DriveWorks.
Neutral formats like STEP are great for collaborating with other designers who use different CAD software. But sometimes, opening or saving a STEP file doesn't go as planned. If you've ever had a file fail to save as STEP and generate a .err file instead, you're in the right place. This article explains a tool that can be used to track down and resolve geometry issues that prevent SOLIDWORKS from creating a STEP file.
This tutorial demonstrates a simple example of how to create a spring part that can be inserted into a SOLIDWORKS assembly that will expand and compress with the movement of other parts.
Artificial intelligence is rapidly becoming part of the engineering software landscape, but the term "AI" can describe very different technologies. For SOLIDWORKS users, the important questions surround what a feature can actually do, how it is delivered, and where engineering judgment still belongs.
Each tier of SOLIDWORKS includes powerful features (the higher level includes all of the features of the previous levels). In this guide, we compare each tier of SOLIDWORKS packages and see some examples of the most used features at work so you can best determine what level of SOLIDWORKS is best for you or your company.
CAMWorks Solids has now been converted to a CAMWorks SOLIDWORKS OEM license. This means you’ll need to install both SOLIDWORKS and then install CAMWorks. These steps must be followed to avoid any issues. First, ensure you have Admin Rights to the computer you are working on. Below we will explain the install process, in the correct order, for SOLIDWORKS OEM and CAMWorks. If you are upgrading your CAMWorks, be sure to back up your TechDB so it's not lost.
If you've been following GoEngineer's partnership with Bright Laser Technologies, you already know what BLT's machines can print: the titanium hinge inside OPPO's Find N5 foldable phone, the metal O-rings BLT produces under an Airbus A320 production contract, the record-setting BYD Yangwang U9X, whose chassis relies on BLT printers for a structure that's both lighter and stiffer than conventional casting could produce. These aren't prototypes. They're production parts, used at scale, today. And behind it all is Dr. Xue Lei (“Leo”), Founder, Chairman, and CEO of Bright Laser Technologies.
When clients and offices are scattered around the nation or the world, the action to copy/retrieve files to the archive can become extremely slow. For this reason, having an archive that is local to the office will speed up the copying process. These multiple archive servers are called “Replicated” servers. PDM can copy or replicate the files automatically between the servers in the evening when the network is not being used.
